Five Star Academy’s Barber Apprenticeship Program gives qualified students a pathway to gain paid barbershop experience while completing required classroom instruction.

As an apprentice, you train under a licensed barber, build your skills with clients, and follow a structured program designed to help you work toward California barber licensure.

Applicants must be at least 16 years old, have completed the 10th grade, and provide a valid SSN or ITIN.

  • Barber Apprenticeship Program Timeline

    Most apprentices complete the program in 18 to 24 months, depending on their schedule, hours, and progress.

    The program includes:

    • Health & Safety Orientation
      A required course completed at the start of the program.
    • Paid Barbershop Training
      Hands-on work in a licensed barbershop under the supervision of a licensed barber.
    • Weekly Classroom Instruction
      A 4-hour weekly class offered in morning, afternoon, or evening sessions.

    After completing the required apprenticeship hours and program requirements, apprentices may move forward toward the California State Board Exam for barber licensure.

  • How the Barber Apprenticeship Works

    The barber apprenticeship pathway combines employment in a licensed barbershop with weekly related instruction through Five Star Academy.

    Students must be hired by a licensed barbershop that agrees to train and supervise them during the program. Five Star Academy provides classroom instruction, program support, progress tracking, and guidance through the apprenticeship requirements.
