Barber & Cosmetology Apprenticeship Program in Rialto, California

An apprenticeship combines paid, hands-on experience with related instruction to help prepare you for a barber or cosmetology license. Overseen by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Apprenticeship, the program requires each apprentice to secure employment with a licensed barbershop or salon willing to hire, train, and supervise them. Five Star supports apprentices with classroom instruction, program coordination, progress tracking, and compliance requirements throughout the apprenticeship.

Our apprenticeship runs for 18 to 24 months and includes three main parts for a balanced learning approach:

• A 5-hour health and safety course completed on orientation day.
• Part-time or full-time work in a salon or shop to practice skills and earn income.
• A weekly 4-hour classroom session, offered in the morning, afternoon, or evening to fit your availability.

Once you complete the required hours, you’ll be eligible to take the State Board Exam for your barber or cosmetology license.

Apprentices are expected to enter the workplace prepared to serve clients and continue developing their skills under a licensed professional.
